Enjoyable conclusion

Book Condition: Book arrived in great condition. I ordered it new and looked like it was. No misprints or physical issues.

Book Review: This was a very satisfying end to this series of fairy tale retellings. There was such a build up as the books went on and the author did a great job of tying so many storylines in together. With each book the story got better and better. I liked the subtle things she did to tie the classic telling in to her vision of these stories. It also made it more interesting reading about the situations from so many different perspectives and it helped you to connect so much more with the characters. I enjoyed that while the romance was definitely still there, the story was not focused on that solely as it often is in modern versions of these princess stories. There was so much action that had a hold on my attention and often had me on the edge of my seat for how it could possibly go. It was one of those situations where everything that could go wrong did and you’re waiting to see how they get themselves out of these situations. I appreciate the author for not making all of the women just your boring old damsel in distresses who only ever need to be saved and how the men were also the ones who needed saving a lot of the time too. I feel like there was a good balance to it all. Though this book was very long and sometimes felt like it was never ending, I feel there would have been too many unanswered questions if was any shorter considering all that happened. While this was technically the last book of the main storyline, I’m curious to read Stars Above and get more backstories or other info about the characters following this book. The first four books were rereads for me as I was originally reading this series as it was coming out, I’m glad to have started the series over and was able to read it all the way through this time. I enjoyed this book probably as much as I would have when I first started reading The Lunar Chronicles. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Amazing series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11-12-2019
I actually can't comprehend the fact that this series is over. And I'm thinking back to when I was reading Cinder, and its kind of amazing how much these books improved, I did like Cinder when I read it but I know that if I decided to re-read it would be a case of just getting through Cinder and kind of getting through Scarlet until I got to the good stuff in Cress and Winter. Though that could be mostly down to the fact that Cress and Thorne are my faves.

Anyway, I feel like this was a good conclusion to the series, even though I am slightly devastated its over. I put off reading this book after finishing the first three from mid-February to early-March, partly because it was just so intimidating. I mean this book was like 840 pages, one chapter was 1% progress on my kindle! I have to say though that I raced through this and it didn't at all feel as long as I was expecting, don't get me wrong, a lot happened, but it was fast-paced and enticing. And, I'm actually happy I had the three month gap as when I was reading all the interactions between the characters it just made me so happy to be experiencing all their relationships again, and everything just felt fresh.

Basically, Winter was totally worth staying holed up in my room for the whole of last night and the entirety of today.

Marissa Meyer is absolutely amazing at creating a retelling of a classic Disney story that fits seamlessly into a more futuristic, sci-fi universe. When I was reading Winter's story I could see all of the original inspiration from the story of Snow White and it felt so different, but at the same time so familiar - in a good way. I also love the characters in these books, they are all so developed and fun to read about, Meyer does a wonderful job of making them all so different but so perfect together as a group, and all of the relationships feel real and sincere.

To sum it up I loved the entirety of The Lunar Chronicles series, and I'll be sure to get to Fairest and Stars above soon, I don't want to let go if any of these characters just yet!

An EPIC finale!!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 08-29-2021
I actually don’t know what to say, I’m speechless. When I first listened to Cinder (the first book in the Lunar Chronicles) I knew this was the perfect series for me. I’m a huge fan of Disney and loved Marissa Meyer’s twist on the classic tales. I’ve been slowly making my way through the collection and decided to pick the last book, Winter, for a readathon prompt. With this book being 827 pages long I was prepared to take my time with it and part of me was sad that this was the final book.

After saying I would pace myself I found the book impossible to put down! I initially took it away on holiday and read a few chapters but once I was home I found myself better prepared to sit and absorb this story. I ended up reading near on 300 pages in one evening!

To say this book was intense would be an understatement. Every chapter had my hoping and wishing with all my might that Cinder and her army would succeed. There were some unexpected and pleasant surprises along the way and that final battle scene was gruesome! There were so many relationships and characters that you wanted to see reach their happily ever after so lets talk about them in a bit more details.

Cinder and Kai were the first couple to be introduced to the series and whilst Kai has underwhelmed me in the previous books I did feel he stepped up in this one. He came out of his shell a little more and found a backbone! As always Cinder was her usual ass kicking, formidable self. There were moments when I did worry about her fate but she always had this ability to bounce back, with a little help from her friends.

We met Scarlet and Wolf in the second book and they have been on quite a journey. They seem to be constantly separated and despite being reunited in this book they still faced further hardships. I found their journey the most emotional especially when Wolf faced further devastation and changed. He had such a kind, protective nature that seemed unstoppable. Scarlet made a brilliant right hand woman for Cinder. Like her leader she had a way of communicating with people and stood in the face of danger, determined to win.

My favourite couple had to be Cress and Thorne. Whilst they didn’t get as much of the spotlight in this book there was a very significant moment that had me weak at the knees. They compliment each other so well and as always Thorne’s sense of humour often gave me the giggles. Jacin and Winter were explored in more detail in this book and I did like them. Winter was absolutely bonkers but it’s a wonder anyone remained sane under Levana’s control! Jacin had a heart of gold and like Wolf he was very protective of Winter. He fitted in nicely with the rest of the crew and he grew on my quite quickly.

Now this round up of characters wouldn’t be complete with mentioning Iko. She seemed to be the character that no one could defeat! She constantly threw herself in the way of the danger and her battle scene with Wolf was terrifying!

If you can’t tell by now I loved this book. It was the perfect finale to an already brilliant series but I’m also sad that it is over. I know I have the anthology ‘Stars Above’ to read but I feel like Cinder and her troop have become part of my world and I’m not ready to say goodbye. This was the perfect book to end my summer reading challenge on.
