Boston, 1926. Francis Thurston goes through documents left behind by his grandfather’s brother, recently deceased under mysterious circumstances. He soon discovers the existence of a cult that worships ancient and unspeakable horrors. Mysterious murders, blood rituals in the depths of the Louisiana swamps, artists who descend into insanity after nightmarish visions, and a Cyclopean city that rises from the sea. Step by step, Thurston realizes that his relative’s research got too close to the truth. In the shadows, there are those who want to wake the sleeping god Cthulhu in order to spread madness and destruction over the entire world. The stars are right. Is the end near?

H.P. Lovecraft’s
The Call of Cthulhu, first published in 1928, is one of the greatest classics of American horror literature. Cthulhu himself, dreaming and waiting at the bottom of the sea, became a symbol for the entire mythology that Lovecraft created.

François Baranger, an illustrator who has previously worked in film and games, was fascinated early on by Lovecraft’s creatures and visions which populated the darkest recesses of fantasy. In this book, he has taken on the work of illustrating Lovecraft’s most iconic novel.

About the Author

H.P. Lovecraft

H. P. Lovecraft was born in 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island, where he lived most of his life. He wrote many essays and poems early in his career, but gradually focused on the writing of horror stories, after the advent in 1923 of the pulp magazine Weird Tales, to which he contributed most of his fiction. His relatively small corpus of fiction--three short novels and about sixty short stories--has nevertheless exercised a wide influence on subsequent work in the field, and he is regarded as the leading twentieth-century American author of supernatural fiction. H. P. Lovecraft died in Providence in 1937.

Gorgeous book that captures Lovecraft's vision like no other

I have a lot of material related to Lovecraft, one of my favorite authors--everything from RPGs, to board games, to art books, etc. Nothing captures what I think is the true aesthetic of what I believe Lovecraft probably intended like this book and its companion books by the same artist. I absolutely do not regret picking up the three that are available and look forward to upcoming releases..

Hands down required reading for any fan of dark fantasy or occult fiction. Lovecraft does so much with so little. Hints and allusions become the basis for an entire mythos. The style is a bit older and almost scholarly so it gets a bit thick in places but all the more satisfying upon completion. A quick read that will help you understand so many people’s obsession with Lovecraft’s works..

A phenomenal narrative that delivers in each aspect it present, with few to no letdowns.

With the creation of this tale, came the creation of an entirely new genre, and H.P. Lovecraft absolutely outdid himself with this new fiction tale. Lovecraft conveys a frightening, yet compelling, narrative which delves into ideas that seem almost completely new to mankind. After the protagonist, Francis Wayland Thurston, discovers some of his late grandfather's belongings, he finds himself in a predicament with an ancient deity, named Cthulhu, who has been slumbering for ages, and Thurston becomes wrapped into the cult that follows. While he is most descriptive, Lovecraft also leaves much to the reader's imagination, allowing them to develop this story within their minds instead of just flat-out saying it. While many, including myself, would consider this book outlandish, it is impossible to deny it a place in literature history as a wonderful tale, which challenged common thought and brought new ideas to mankind. With a cliffhanger ending that borders on absolute madness, The Call of Cthulhu delivers in every aspect that it presents within the storyline, and begot a successful series to cement itself into history..
